Photographer based in Milan

I'm Max. I come from the south, but I was born in Milan. Photography entered my life early: I must have been six or seven when I picked up my father's reflex camera, stepping into a new world. I remember the film, only 24 shots and

that big unknown of what you get

the unmistakable magic of three trays in the darkroom.
It feels like another era, back when there were still dinosaurs out there.

Over time I realized photography isn't just a passion. It's, first of all, an exercise in observation. A way of being in the world; through travel, among people, within moments. Because you can't truly photograph if you haven't first stopped to look.

Indeed, observation is also

the beginning of something deeper.

A threshold. From there, an inner path unfolds; a kind of knowing that starts with the eye and moves inward, into

that submerged landscape
made of being and feeling.

Of course there's also a technical side, and

that's a compelling challenge

to evolve, refine, gain precision. I enjoy shaping a vision through a lens just as much as sitting at an 88-key piano, at an SSL console, on a Python script, in a Neumann, or with an SL-1200.
But technique, in the end, is only a means.

At some point, you move beyond it.
It becomes a quiet shift:

from knowing to understanding
from intuition to feeling
and eventually, to sharing.

That's where photography really takes form. In trying to observe what isn't immediately visible, inside and out, and finding a way to express it.

To the person within a portrait. Or to someone who, looking at that image, finds themselves for a moment in something that, even if isn't theirs, yet somehow belongs to them.

Because a photograph is just a moment.
But somehow, it's also a way
of taking it out of time.
